Tasks completed?

Well it's Saturday, almost Sunday, and the last of our projects is pretty much completed - just a few(!) sheets of drywall to hang at Miss Brenda's, and we will be on our way. Cor and Dave will be finising off the job on Monday, while the rest of us would like to go to the mighty Mississippi and the ocean for some well deserved R and R.

Today was a guys only day (with Dar as an added bonus!), insulating the ceiling which was already drywalled, which meant going into the attic, removing all the plywood (most houses have plywood 'flooring' in the attic used for storage because the average house size is only 1100 square feet or under), this was happily done by Josh because he has been our attic monkey all week, with Harold's help, while Cor ripped OSB off the walls and hung insulation. Meanwhile Dave and I started hanging drywall, and have the top 4' of the house done all around.

The girls went to New Orleans City to do souvenier shopping at the French Market, and us guys met them there at 2PM, we left them around 4 to go fishing on Lake Ponchertrain. Unfortunately the motor on the boat wouldn't start, which turned into us standing around for 2 hours talking fishing and hunting with 3 locals. Just hilarious listening to their fishing stories in their southern drawl about 70 pound bass, catfish, garfish Etc. The funniest was when Josh asked them to take him Catfish noodling, and Jim (local) said 'HECK NO'.... I tried that once and almost lost a finger, because instead of pulling up a Catfish, he got a 20 Lb Snapping Turtle on the end of his finger, and it almost took his finger off......... So Josh called him a wuss.

We also got to talk to another Flood survivor who spent 2 days in the water and on rooftops, who saw his brick home washed away by the flood waters in front of his eyes in 10 minutes flat, and finally got rescued. Incredible stories of survival, loss of life, rebuilding and most of all FAITH. Miss Brenda lost 8 members on both sides of the family to Katrina, and a friend due to suicide because she could not handle the horrific conditions and events that took place in the Superdome for the 6 days they were there. Caging people in the Superdome did more to destroy the community then unite it, sinful men took advantage of all the situations caused by the flood while honest people were victimized again. and even now, 3 1/2 years later corruption from all levels is felt by these people. All the want to do is rebuild, but they face so many hurdles it boggles the mind.

Please pray for these people, bring their plight to the feet of Jesus Christ, He alone is the only true solution.

Sunday will bring a day of rest, starting of with another visit to the Original Morning Star Baptist Church, and personally I can't wait to be present in a community that worships our God in such a joyful way!

It is now 12.25AM, and time to finish this blog, only 2 more to come before we leave for Vernon and our homes and families. Good night, remember us in your prayers and remember that we are truly blessed.

On behalf of 5 team members already asleep and Josh, thank you for your interest.

Marcel.

Footnote!

We hope everyone enjoys the weekend, enjoys their family and enjoys their friends, because even though the team is far away from home, we will enjoy the company of those that God has set on our path.
